The State Housing Company (SHC) has inaugurated a nine-unit apartment block at Adentan in the Greater Accra Region as part of efforts to provide affordable housing for the public.
The block, which is known as the Seasons Court Annex, is made up of three-bedroom and two-bedroom apartment units, and adds to numerous projects by the SHC across the country.
It is valued at a unit price of around GH¢1 million.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Managing Director of the SHC, John S. Bawah, said the apartment block was a testament to the government’s commitment to completing all existing housing projects to help reduce the housing deficit.
The project, he said, commenced 12 years ago, but hit a snag at a point, adding that the current administration decided to complete it to ensure returns on the investments already made.
“All expenditure made with taxpayers' money should bring back value to the taxpayers, so if we abandon projects along the way, we are just losing money that necessarily doesn’t belong to State Housing, but to the people of Ghana.
“In line with President (John) Mahama’s vision, our aim is to prioritise completing abandoned projects.
State Housing will try and complete all outstanding projects abandoned by the previous administration,” Mr Bawah added.
Mr Bawah acknowledged the need to embark on large-scale housing projects to drastically reduce the housing deficit and provide decent accommodation for many.

In view of this, he said, his outfit was working on reactivating the Pokuase Affordable Housing project initiated by the previous administration.
He explained that the government was partnering the private sector to ensure the construction of the 8,000 housing units planned under the Pokuase Housing Project.
“Talks are far advanced to reactivate that project. At least, the State Housing part of it will deliver between 1,600 and 3,200 housing units.
A contractor who will help us with pre-financing has been secured.
We are just going through a few technical aspects with the Ministry of Works and Housing to reactivate that project,” he added.
For his part, the Board Chairman of the SHC, Ralph Roland, said the inauguration reflected the government’s commitment to using innovative approaches in addressing the national housing deficits.
“It also aligns with the Government of Ghana’s broader reset agenda for the well-being of the people of the country,” he said.
