United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has described Ghana as a fundamental pillar in the stability and progress of Africa.
He made the remarks during a discussion with President John Dramani Mahama on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Japan.
Mr. Guterres noted that his longstanding engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) deepened his appreciation of Ghana’s role in the region.
“I have to say that since my time in government, I have had close relations with ECOWAS in solving some challenges within the region. Since that time, I have always considered Ghana a fundamental pillar not only in the construction of West Africa but also of the African continent,” he stated.
The meeting between the UN Secretary-General and President Mahama focused on strengthening international partnerships for Africa’s development and reinforcing regional cooperation for peace and stability.
