The Hohoe Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a civic engagement on the rule of law and corruption for women from selected groups in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
It was aimed at educating and empowering the women to be agents of change with regards to fighting corruption in the country as well as knowing their rights to help curb the menace.
Mr Ernest Amedior, Hohoe Municipal Director, NCCE noted that corruption affected development of the nation and women were mostly victims of its consequences.
He said the engagement would equip the women to support in the anti-corruption drive and reduce it to its barest minimum level and urged them to become agents in their various groups.
Mr Amedior urged participants to participate in governance processes at the local level, fulfil their obligations as citizens, and support each other.
Mr Michael Amoadjah, Acting Hohoe Municipal Director, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), said women’s rights were mostly overshadowed by men and there was the need for them to know their rights.
He said educating the women on their rights would help them exercise their rights full and help fight corruption by using the Whistle Blower Act.
The engagement was supported by the European Union, GIZ, Swiss Government and the Ministry of Finance.
Participants expressed gratitude for the engagement which has enlightened them on corruption, their rights and support available for them in the fight against corruption.
