The Republic of Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has renovated and furnished seven Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories across 16 basic and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools in the New Juaben North and South Municipalities of the Eastern Region.
The $1.17 million initiative, implemented under KOICA’s Project Volunteer Programme for ICT Education, has also trained 22 ICT teachers and over 100 non-ICT teachers in beneficiary schools, including Koforidua Roman Catholic, Effiduase Presbyterian, and Koforidua Gratis Technical Institute.
Launched in January 2025, the five-phase project aims to improve ICT access, promote digital learning, and establish Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for teachers’ continuous development.
At a mid-term progress review in Koforidua, KOICA Country Director, Mr Dong Hyun Lee, said the project, now in its third phase, focuses on enhancing ICT teaching through lab renovations, after-school classes, and Teachers’ Learning Circles (TLCs).
“These interventions promote collaboration and sustainability, laying a strong foundation for digital education,” he stated.
He added that upcoming phases would expand TLC activities, strengthen after-school programmes, and evaluate the project’s impact.
Deputy Regional Director of Education, Mr Benjamine Narh, and TVET Regional Director, Mrs Evelyn Dansoa Boateng, praised KOICA’s support, noting improved ICT infrastructure and student performance.
They pledged continued collaboration to boost digital literacy and skills training.
