Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, November 17, Prof. Yorke said, “It is in a healthier situation than the current board met it, and as we speak, we are not in current arrears, and disbursements are going as it should be, and there are a lot more that the board is looking at championing.

“We are looking at partnering with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to roll out the Free Universal Health for all Ghanaians and many others.”

Prof. Yorke was appointed to the NHIA Board in May, following the revocation of Anne Sansa Daly’s appointment by President John Dramani Mahama over concerns about her lack of a valid licence to practise medicine in Ghana. He described his new role as a call to national duty.

“I think for me it is a call to duty, and when national duty calls, I think it is a privilege and I don’t think it would have been good for me to turn it down,” he said.

“It is unfortunate what happened happened but I think they needed to replace with somebody everybody can vouch for and I am glad that that lot fell on me and I have been since I was appointed.”
