Ghana, Kenya, and Togo to convene regional forum on gender-responsive lawmaking

The Africa Centre for Parliamentary Engagement and Accountability (ACEPA), in partnership with the Parliament of Ghana, will host a two-day Regional Forum on Gender-Responsive Lawmaking and Citizen Engagement from November 26–27, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra.

The forum, organised under the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender Responsive Policies (ILGRP) project funded by Global Affairs Canada, brings together parliamentarians, parliamentary staff, civil society organisations (CSOs), and development partners from Ghana, Kenya, and Togo.

Held under the theme: “Parliament-CSO-Citizen Collaboration on Gender-Responsive Lawmaking: Experiences and Pathways from Ghana, Kenya, and Togo,” the forum aims to promote gender equality and inclusion in legislative processes by sharing tools, experiences, and lessons across the three countries.

Participants will engage in panel discussions and presentations over the two days, focusing on: Strengthening gender-responsive lawmaking in African parliaments; Showcasing good practices and tools that promote inclusivity; Enhancing collaboration between parliaments, CSOs, and citizens; and Exploring digital innovations for citizen engagement in legislative processes.

The event will be officially opened by Alban Bagbin, Speaker of the Parliament, and will feature remarks from the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, a key partner and funder of the initiative.

The forum is expected to provide practical pathways and strategies for African parliaments to ensure that laws and policies reflect the realities and aspirations of women and marginalised groups, reinforcing the continent’s commitment to inclusive governance.
