The Founder of Kid Patriot Club-Ghana, Mrs Eleanora Portia Baffour-Agyei, has appealed to the government and indigenous companies to support the organisation’s annual cultural programme aimed at educating children on Ghanaian heritage.

She said although the initiative had positively impacted many children across the country, inadequate funding continued to threaten its sustainability.

Mrs Baffour-Agyei made the appeal in an interview with The Ghanaian Times last Saturday in Accra during the 2026 edition of Kids Discovering Ghana.

“We want to see more interest in the nation from the state to support this. I believe this is one event that is solely dedicated to children in this way,” she said.

She explained that the non-profit organisation had so far organised six editions of the programme, largely funding it through its own resources, with support from a few individual donors.

Mrs Baffour-Agyei noted that sustained investment was critical to nurturing the next generation through Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

She said her motivation stemmed from what she described as a declining interest among children in Ghanaian culture, as they increasingly gravitated towards influences that promoted moral decadence and cultural erosion.

“A nation thrives on its heritage. A nation thrives on its culture, including the language. We are either losing it or our children’s interests have shifted to something else,” she added.

She stressed the need for deliberate efforts to reconnect children with their identity.

“But we have to make the effort to ensure that their interests are rooted in who they are and where they were born. We are making this a necessity for every parent, every school and the nation as a whole,” she said.

On what kept her going despite the challenges, Mrs Baffour-Agyei said feedback from parents and children continued to inspire her.

“What keeps me going is the stories I hear every year after this event. Some parents tell me that even months after returning from a holiday in Ghana, their children are still singing the songs or dancing the cultural dances they learnt here,” she said.

A parent, Ms Alexandria Addy, who attended the event with her six-year-old ward, Nana Agyemang Prempeh, said they were excited about the new games and local dishes introduced this year.

For his part, Nana Prempeh, a Class One pupil, said it was his first time attending the event and expressed excitement about the experience.

This year’s event was on the theme: ‘Passing on Old Secrets to a New Generation,’ highlighting the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural values by deliberately transferring knowledge, traditions and wisdom from one generation to another.

It also underscored the shared responsibility of raising culturally conscious future leaders.

The event attracted more than 200 children and their parents from diverse backgrounds.

Participants engaged in singing, dancing and traditional games, while regional exhibition tents showcased the rich cultural heritage of the various parts of the country.
