The government has channelled colossal financial resources through the banks to strengthen the operations of the Rural Enterprise Project (REP) toward the economic empowerment of rural communities.
Mr Kofi Adusei-Poku, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, who announced this at Kuntanase in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district on Monday when he toured the district, said the country needed an economically empowered citizenry to enable it achieve its Millennium Development Goals.
The Deputy Minister, who was accompanied on his tour by Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive, inspected some REP projects such as batik, tie and dye, soap making, as well as snail and grasscutter rearing at Dededua, Esreso and Kuntanase.
The DCE said eight communities in the district were involved in the REP projects and that about 283 people had so far benefited from small business enterprises management training.
