Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubakr, Bishop of the Kumasi Methodist Diocese, urged Ghanaians to eschew laziness and work harder to increase productivity towards national development.
He said, "We have to discard the attitude that distance us from acting to protect national property and economic interest."
Rt. Rev. Abubakr was addressing a four-day 46th Annual Synod of the Kumasi Methodist Diocese, which was under the theme "Winning the nation for Christ," and being attended by 300 delegates, in Kumasi.
He expressed worry about Ghanaians attitude to time and said, " If we really want to be prosperous in the capitalist economy then we should change are attitude with reference to time and that should start from the Church."
Rt. Rev. Abubakr also appealed to the people to avoid practices that could result in environmental degradation adding that, "We need to realize that God created the environment to ensure our survival."
He urged Ghanaians to be committed to democratic principles and to pay they taxes regularly and promptly to enable the Government generate more revenue for development.
Rt. Rev. Abubakr said last year, the Diocese instituted best teachers' awards and presented prize including television sets to deserving teachers to motivate them to be dedicated to work.
He said the Church had also established a scholarship scheme to assist brilliant but needy students in basic and second cycle schools and tertiary institution to promote education in the Diocese, adding that last year, 90 million cedis was spent on deserving students.
Rt. Rev. Abubakr also gave the hint that efforts were being made by the Church to raise funds for the execution of the Suame Round-about Complex Project and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology hostel project.
He said the Church had intensified its evangelism program to help win more souls for Christ.
Most. Rev. Dr. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, commanded the Diocese for instituting a fund towards development projects.
He also lauded the Diocese for its contributions towards the construction of the Methodist Lay Movement Hostel Project in Accra, and the assistance it offered the Methodist Church at Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo Region, when its mission house was gutted by fire early this year.
