Russia's foreign minister Wednesday paid a visit to the West Bank to discuss the crisis that drove Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas out of Gaza.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met for nearly two hours with Abbas, and discussed humanitarian aid as well as the overall political situation in the PA.
Lavrov told the Itar-Tass news service that Russian aid would be made available to residents of Gaza. However, he also told Interfax he had no immediate plans to meet with the leaders of Hamas who currently run things in the territory.
Lavrov publicly urged Israel to ease up on the Palestinians, so they make life easier for the people who live there and get the Middle East peace process back on track.
