A Regional Tribunal in Accra on Tuesday remanded in custody a miner at Akwatia in the Eastern Region who colleted 3,000 GH Cedis (30 million cedis) from a salesman in Accra under the pretext of supplying him with gold but failed to deliver.
Musah Adams collected the money from Mr Woss Martin and went into hiding when he could not deliver on his promise.
Adams pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretences and he will reappear on July 31.
DSP S.C. Baidoo, the prosecutor, told the tribunal, chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu that on February 5, this year Adams collected an amount of GH 3,000 cedis (30 million cedis) from Mr Martin who lives at North Ridge in Accra, under the pretext of securing him a quantity of refined gold of 22.5 carats and another quantity of 200 pounds gold, upon which he made an undertaking.
DSP Baidoo said the total cost of the items was GH 3,300 cedis (33 million cedis). The complainant gave the accused GH 3,000 cedis (30 million cedis) with a balance of GH 300 cedis (three million cedis) to be paid when the whole consignment was supplied.
He said after collecting the money, Adams could not honour his part of the deal and therefore went into hiding.
