At Cape Coast, a parade of 160 security men drawn from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNES) Ghana Prison Service (GPS) Police Service, Army from the 64 Infantry Regiment in Burma Camp, Cadets from Adisadel College and retired soldiers was held at the forecourt of the Cape Coast castle to mark the 62nd Remembrance Day service.
The commanding officer was Captain George Nana Yaw Oduro from the 64 infantry regiment whiles the Anglican Boys Brigade band provided music.
At exactly 1100 hours there was a siren, ringing of church bells, amidst the sounding of last post and Mr King Solomon Aubin, Central Regional Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) read the "Binyon".
The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, laid a wreath at the cenotaph, on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana; Mrs Rose Bio-Atinga, Regional Police Commander laid one on behalf of security services; Nana Kwame Edu Tufuhen of Oguaa Traditional Council, for the chiefs and people of Oguaa traditional area and Mr King Solomon Aubin Regional VAG Chairman laid one on behalf of Veterans.
Two minutes silence was also observed for the departed souls, after which Flags were hoisted at full mast.
Reverend Fr. Ato Koomson of the Anglican Church gave the Benediction to end the service.
The contingent later marched through the streets of Cape Coast.
At Sunyani, a Remembrance Day service in honour of fallen soldiers, who fought in the first and second world wars and other subsequent wars was marked at a short ceremony at the Legion Hall in Sunyani.
The ceremony, which attracted a cross-section of the public, had on parade some members of the security forces in the Brong-Ahafo Region, drawn from the armed forces, police and prison services as well as veteran soldiers.
Wreaths were laid by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, Captain Klutse, acting Third Garrison Commander, on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP James Oppong Boanu, for the security services, Brong-Ahafo Regional Vice-Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ghana, W.O. I Steven Diawuo, for the veterans and the Deputy President of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chief, Nana Kwame Korang V, for the chiefs and people of the Region.
Mr Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, and Mr F O Boateng, Regional Coordinating Director, among other dignitaries, graced the occasion.
At Takoradi, a service was on Sunday held at the Takoradi Cenotaph to commemorate the 62nd Remembrance Day.
A contingent of the Western Regional Veterans Association of Ghana (VAT) was on parade, while the Regimental Band of Air Force Station, Takoradi provided music.
Squadron Leader Reverend Father Philip Mensah, who led the service, said it was fitting for the nation to honour servicemen who lost their lives during the two world wars and other military engagements.
He said these noble men who laid down their lives should be remembered because a time would come when those now living would need others to pray for them when they die.
Squadron Leader Mensah said those who die in the Lord had hope of salvation.
Sub-Lieutenant Reverend David Benedict Quayson, read the Christian scripture and Lieutenant Imam Najmu-deen Aghere Mohammed, said Muslim prayers and exhortation.
Ex-Chief Petty Officer Class One Solomon Nana Amankwa, Regional Chairman of VAG, read the Binyon verse.
Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, laid a wreath on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, Naval Captain Steve Darbo, on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces and Mr Robert Azu, acting Regional Police Commander, on behalf of the security services.
Other wreaths were laid by Osabarima Kow Entsie II, Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional Area, on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Region, Ex-Petty Officer Amankwa, on behalf of ex-servicemen and Ex-Lance Corporal Kwamena Ennin, acting Takoradi District chairman of VAG, on behalf of expatriates.
Prayers were offered for the President, members of government and for the prosperity of the country.
