Ms Rosina Otchere, an Educationist, on Thursday urged students to learn hard to ensure that investments being made in them by their parents and the government did not become a waste.
She asked students to use their time judiciously, so as to enable them achieve their educational goals.
Ms Otchere, Headmistress of the Topease Senior and Junior High Schools, near Asamankese in the Eastern Region, was addressing a special school assembly involving some 200 students and pupils of the school.
She expressed regret that some students played truancy, indulged in absenteeism and reported to school late, saying the practice would have an adverse effect on their academic performance.
The Headmistress cautioned students against pre-marital sex and alcoholism, while she appealed to the teachers to discipline offending students to serve as deterrent to others.
She urged teachers to improve upon their knowledge and skills to facilitate teaching and learning.
Ms. Otchere tasked stakeholders in education to show interest in the development and growth of the educational sector, to improve on the condition of less endowed schools.
"We must all show great knowledge that we have gained from academic study, to push the development of our educational institutions forward", she said.
She commended citizens of the area for constructing a block of six classrooms through communalism.
