The Ghana Tourist Board (GTB), in Ashanti Region, on Thursday in Kumasi feted and entertained the aged in the craft industry in the region.
The programme, which formed part of GTB's initiative to acknowledge and honour the aged with talents in the industry to prevent them from abandoning the industry, started last year and this year's event coincided with Valentine's Day (the 'Chocolate Day) celebration.
Aged craftsmen and women from Pankrono, Ntonso and Ahwiaa all in Ashanti, noted for the production of artefacts and sculpture made from wood, clay and "Adinkra" fabrics, were given a special treat amidst old time high life music.
The "old timers" danced to music of their taste and were later given a health talk and also presented with hampers of chocolates and other cocoa products to boost their health.
Mr Ben Anane Nsiah, the Regional Manager of GTB, said expression of love on Valentine's Day should not be shown to only young and energetic people but old, hardworking and weak people in the society to demonstrate to them how they were cherished in society.
Mr Nsiah urged Ghanaians to visit Pankrono, Ntonso and Ahwiaa as tourist sites as a way of promoting the craft industry.
Dr Anim Akoto, Senior House Officer of the Surgery Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, charged the aged to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to visit the hospital regularly.
He advised the aged to be particular about their eating habits since they were prone to diseases such as prostate, cervical and breast cancers, hypertension and diabetes.
The aged asked questions pertaining to their health and work.
They also appealed to government to support them with enough raw materials and a visitors' centre to ensure the comfort of tourists who sometimes call at the various locations to buy products from the association members.
