The Upper East Branch of the Old Vandal Association (OVA) of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana (UG), has called on Government to set up a "Peace Committee" to collect views from all the affected individuals or groups in the Bawku conflict.
They said the views should be based on grievances and suggestions that would enable the government to deal with the conflict situation in Bawku.
The suggestion was contained in a statement signed by Doctor Francis Asana, President of the Association at the weekend in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
It explained that, with the establishment of a Peace Committee, the relevant facts and grievances of the cause of the conflict could easily be known from the factions to enable Government properly deal with the protracted conflict in the area.
It entreated all the warring factions to leave the past behind them and allow peace, security and development.
The statement expressed regret at the withdrawal of services of a lot of development partners from the area and the loss of lives and destruction of properties as a result of the conflict.
It urged the feuding factions to rethink about the situation and stop the fighting.
The Vandal members donated 20 set of plastic chairs to two of their members, Dr Francis Asana, the District Director of Health Services, Garu-Tempane and Mr Sando Musah, a lecturer of Bawku Presbyterian Training College, whose property was destroyed during the violence.
