Edward Sam, a 22-year-old driver was on Wednesday, remanded in prison custody by a Cape Coast court for stealing a 207 Benz bus carrier belonging to one Mr Michael Quansah.
Sam, who pleaded guilty, was convicted on his own plea but had his sentence deferred until June 18, 2008.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that, sometime last year, Mr Quansah took his 207 Benz bus carrier to a wielder at Tantri, a suburb of Cape Coast for repairs.
He said after the carrier was repaired, the complainant failed to pick it up and Sam took advantage of the situation and stole it and sold it to a scrap dealer for GH¢15.00.
Chief Inspector Azasoo said Mr Quansah later had information that the carrier was no longer at the wielder's place and when he made his own inquiries he was told that Sam had stolen the carrier.
He said the police were informed and Sam was arrested and in his caution statement admitted the offence, but could not mention the scraps dealer he sold the item to.
