Four persons alleged to be members of a criminal gang, stealing high tension and street light cables in Agbozume and its environs were on Wednesday remanded in Police custody by an Aflao Circuit Court.
The four whose pleas were not taken would be brought before the Court again on June 18, this year.
They are Frank Atiga, 22, truck pusher, Kwamivi Agbosu,23, stone cracker, Horvey Agbodzake, 25, barber, all ex-convicts, who were jointly charged for conspiring to steal and stealing and James Mawuko Acolates, 35, driver charged for abetment of crime.
Kodzo Atitsogbe, 28, the fifth suspect said to be the ringleader is on the run and being sought alongside other unnamed suspects.
Mr Sylvanus Kudolo, Asistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Agbozume told the Court presided over by Group Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (Rtd) that Atiga, Agbosu, Agbodzake and Atitsogbe were tenants in the house of Acolatse at Agbozume Zongo.
He said many times early this year, there had been theft of high tension and street light cables at Agbozume and its outlining areas following which the Police mounted series of operations for the arrest of perpetrators but without success.
Mr Kudolo said sometime in March this year, a hint led to the arrest of Atiga, Agbosu and Agbodzake, who during interrogations admitted their involvement in the crime and mentioned Atitsogbe as their ringleader.
He said the three stated that after the theft, they sent the cable to the house where they burn it to remove the rubber coatings and the bear copper wires sent to Accra for sale by Atitsogbe and the proceeds shared among them.
Mr Kudolo said the culprits revealed that on one of Atitsogbe's trips to Accra to sell the cables, he purchased three bicycles for them, which they used in their subsequent operations.
He said the suspects also mentioned Acolatse, their landlord as having witnessed in the house, the preparation of the cables for sale.
Mr Kudolo said the three bicycles have been seized by the police.
