Madam Comfort Adjei, headmistress of Nkoranza District Assembly Model Girls' Junior High School, has attributed the incidence of teenage pregnancies and school drop outs, to the failure of some parents to live up to their responsibilities.
She expressed her concern about how some parents shirked their responsibilities to the detriment of their children, which allowed especially the girls, at the adolescent stage to engage in pre-marital sexual practices.
Addressing the parents and teachers of the school at a meeting, to discuss problems facing the school, the headmistress noted that "such negative attitude on the part of parents have caused a number of teenage pregnancies and school drop outs in the communities".
Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, advised the parents to provide their girls with the basic needs, so they would not fall to unscrupulous men.
He also called on the parents to pay regular visits to the schools to interact with the teachers to encourage them and to help promote discipline among the students.
Mr Agyemang-Badu urged teachers to live above reproach as role models in the communities to maintain their dignity as responsible professionals.
Mr Yaw Sikayena, Chairman of the school management committee, deplored the practice of some parents, who allow their children to roam the streets in the night and watch video shows.
"The SMC and staff of the school will check such practices by the children, which have adverse effect on their development", he said.
Mr Sikayena said parents had decided to raise special funds to extend electricity to the school and to renovate its structures.
