An Anyinam Magistrate's court has fined Kwabena Prosper 20, a farmer 500 Ghana cedis for siphoning fuel from a parked vehicle.
Prosper who pleaded guilty would serve 18 months imprisonment with hard labour in default.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector David Agyei, told the court presided over by Mr Lawrence Buer, that the complainant who is Nifahene of Asamang-Tamfoe had for some time now complained of some people siphoning fuel from his parked articulated truck.
He said the accused was seen around the truck with barrels and a gallon of fuel and was arrested and handed over to the police.
The prosecution said police investigations revealed that the vehicle had two barrels of fuel but was empty when the accused was arrested.
In his ruling, Mr Buer said although the police could not prove that the accused siphon all the fuel but was found with only a gallon of fuel, the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others in the area.
