The National Media Commission has congratulated Mr Israel Laryea of Joy FM, an Accra-based radio station, for winning the Award in Radio General News Reporting at last weekend's CNN/Multichoice African Journalist Awards 2008.
In a release signed by the Chairman, Mr Paul Adu-Gyamfi, the Commission said by this feat, Mr Laryea had not only brought honour unto himself and the country but also demonstrated that with continued hard work, dedication and commitment to professionalism, the Ghanaian Journalist could become the beacon of hope for the continent's search for media professionals with integrity.
The Commission also commended Mr Daniel Nkrumah of the Graphic Communications Group Limited for emerging as a finalist, even though he lost the coveted award to Mr Emmanuel Maya of the Sun of Nigeria.
"The National Media Commission hopes the success story of Mr Laryea and Mr Nkrumah on the continental level would inspire journalists in the country to greater heights in the profession," the statement said.
The NMC also congratulated all award winners in the 2008 CNN/Multichoice Media African Journalist Awards, especially Mr Hopewell Rugoho-Chonono of Zimbabwe Television for emerging the Best African Journalist of the year 2008.
"African journalists need to tell the success story of Africa in their own way and the quality of the awards definitely shows how far African journalists have come," it said.
