The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong, on Tuesday reiterated the readiness of the Police Service to assist the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that the forthcoming elections were conducted smoothly and peacefully.
He said personnel of the service have been mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to enable them discharge their duties.
The IGP gave the assurance at a mini durbar of officers and men of the Police Service at the Regional Police Command in Cape Coast, to precede the joint inauguration of two completed three-storey block of flats for personnel of the service. With the IGP was the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur.
The two buildings, whose construction begun in 1972 and was abandoned, were completed at a cost of GH¢240,000.00 each.
The IGP said various courses were also being organised to enhance the capabilities of the police to assist in the elections, and tasked the officers and men to see their responsibility in ensuring smooth elections as a sacrifice, adding, "let us do our best".
He called on them to endeavour to be fair and firm in the discharge of their duties, and not to hesitate in bringing electoral offenders to book.
Nana Ato Arthur, who presided, commended the police for their hard work, and assured them of government's commitment to improve on their welfare.
