A 14-member delegation from the Vanguard Newspapers of Nigeria on Thursday paid a visit to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to acquaint itself with the operations of the Agency.
Nana Appau Duah, General Manager, GNA, who briefed the delegation, said the Agency was moving from an era of dependency on government subvention, by establishing a Business Department to mobilise funds to support its operations.
He said GNA had greatly improved both in news production and in its new area of business, which includes the pre-financing of advertisements and currently had many news subscribers apart from its numerous advertisers.
Nana Appau Duah assured the Vanguard Newspaper of a cordial relationship, and said GNA had a lot to offer it in the area of news subscription as well as in the tactics of enhancing the sale of their newspapers.
According to Mrs Patricia Tegbe-Agbo, Business Development Coordinator, GNA, the Business Department kept the profile of the entire Agency's clientele to make debt collection easier.
"We also pre-finance advertisements for our clients, most of whom are government subvented agencies, so that they can pay us back with some interest at an agreed date," she said.
She explained that the GNA had credit slots with some media organisations, which had helped in the easy running of new business.
Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi, Supervising Chief Editor, GNA, who took the delegation round, emphasised the importance of speed, accuracy and objectivity in the Agency's reportage.
He said Agency had earned a high reputation over the years, making its bulletins a very authentic source of information to the public, due to the quality of work.
Mr. Boadi explained that GNA's news was currently being packaged into Economics, Political, Social, Science and Sports bulletins to make it easy for selection by subscribers.
Ms Temisan Amuka-Pemu, Circulation Manager of the Vanguard Newspaper, thanked the Management and staff of the GNA for the warm reception and promised to contact the Agency for further business commitments.
