Nigeria's Minister of Education Hajia Aisha Dukku called on Monday for cooperation from Germany in the country's quest for quality education at all levels.
The minister made the call in Abuja at a meeting between officials of a German delegation and those of the Ministry of Education.
The education minister said Nigeria would need German technical assistance in building a factory in the country for the production of Science and technical equipment for pre-primary and primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
She said workshop and laboratory equipment in the nation's school system are in dilapidated conditions and need urgent replacement.
"The repair and replacement of these facilities are of utmost importance to us because of the urgent need for high quality manpower to drive national development for the attainment of President Umaru Yar'Adua seven-point agenda and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals," she was quoted saying by the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.
"We also need high quality human capacity for the realization of the nation's vision of being among the 20 most developed countries in the world by 2020," she added.
In his response, Hartwig Fischer, a member of the German Parliament and leader of the delegation, said Germany is keen in assisting Nigeria in the development of the education sector.
Fischer told the minister that Germany would share its experiences with Nigeria in science and technology.
