Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive for Agona East has urged marriage couples to plan the number of children they could cater for, to avoid problems.
He urged them to adopt family planning methods to control their births.
Mr Armah-Frempong gave the warning when he addressed separate meetings at Agona Oketsew and Mankrong-Junction as part of his interactions with the people in the district.
"Produce the number of children you can cater for and if we fail to reduce our birth rates, poverty would continue to haunt us," the DCE said.
He noted that the only legacy parents could bequeath to their children was to give them better education, which is the key to poverty alleviation.
The DCE asked the chiefs and elders to ensure that the children were restricted to watch video show and concert, to enable them concentrate on their studies.
Mr Armah-Frempong stated that government under President J.A. Kufuor has brought many policies in the areas of school feeding, capitation grant, National Health Insurance Scheme, free-delivery for pregnant women, which were meant to reduce poverty among Ghanaians.
At Mankrong-Jucntion, the DCE told the members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of Agona District Council (ADC) Junior High School to prioritise the education of their children and stop buying funeral cloths and other things that they did not need immediately.
He cautioned parents to desist from the habit of attacking and insulting teachers when their children were checked for insolent.
Mr Armah-Frempong urged the parents to visit the school regularly to enable them know the problems being encountered by the children and assist the teachers to solve them.
The DCE announced that this term alone the MP for Agona East, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng has paid 21,000 Ghana cedis as scholarships for students at secondary and tertiary institutions to help them pursue their education.
Mr Armah-Frempong on behalf of the MP donated 500 exercise books and boxes of mathematical sets to the ADC Junior High school.
