The district court at Wamfie in Dormaa East District has sentenced 22-year-old Kwabena Oppong to two years imprisonment for stealing 30 mobile phones, accessories and GHC 1,400 from his uncle's mobile phone shop.
The court remanded Oppong's accomplice, Kwame James, 25, who pleaded not guilty, to allow for further police investigations.
Chief Inspector A.A. Duodu told the court that Mr. Johnson Nketia operated Asenuase Communication centre at Wamfie and the two are his nephews.
On October 10 2008, some unidentified persons attempted to break into the centre in the night but the security man scared them away.
He said on Monday January 12 Oppong and James scaled the adjacent wall, broke through the ceiling, entered the centre and took away the items.
Mr. Nketia reported the incident to the police and during a search the two suspects were arrested at Nsesereso on the Wamfie/Berekum trunk road.
The prosecutor said the police retrieved only GHC 100 out of the stolen amount from the suspects.
Oppong pleaded guilty but James claimed Oppong lured him into the crime.
