A 21-year old labourer was on Tuesday remanded in police custody by the Tema Circuit Court 'A' for possessing narcotic substance.
Solomon Mensah pleaded not guilty and is to re-appear in court on February 9.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Assunta, told the court presided over by Mrs Lauren Owusu, that on January 20, 2009, at about 12.00pm, police personnel stationed at the Buffalo Unit at Tema New Town, were on patrol duty when information reached them concerning individuals who were selling and smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in an uncompleted building at Abonkor.
The police quickly proceeded to the place and spotted the accused smoking the substance suspected to Indian hemp.
Ten wrappers of dried leaves and two brown quantities wrapped in a carrier bag were found on him after his arrest.
The prosecutor said Mensah admitted the offence after interrogation in his caution statement, claiming that he purchased the item from a man at the Fishing Harbour but he could not be traced.
