A 45-year old landlord, Kwaku Wiredu, has been fined GH¢60 by the Nyinahin Magistrate Court in the Atwima-Mponua District for failing to weed around his building.
Wiredu was convicted on his guilty plea and would serve one month in prison custody if he fails to pay the fine.
Prosecuting, Mr. Robert Forson, the District Assembly Prosecutor, told the court presided over by Mr. Augustine Essah, said that the accused is a resident at Nyinahin who has acquired a plot of land in the town and has started constructing a house on the land.
He said the uncompleted building was engulfed by weeds and the landlord made no attempt to fix the problem.
Mr. Forson said on January 8, the District Assembly Environmental Officers on their usual rounds, found the premises of the building over-grown with weeds and after thorough investigations Wiredu was identified as the owner of the building.
He said the accused was, therefore, given five days ultimatum to clear the weeds but failed to do so and was therefore charged with the offence at the court.
