A Turkish anti-drug team seized 145 kg of heroin at a border gate in the eastern province of Agri on Friday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Acting on a tip-off, the anti-drug team stopped an Iranian truck at Gurbulak Border Gate in Dogubayazit town, which came from neighbouring Iran on its way for Italy, and found the heroin in two tyres in the truck with the help of a hunting dog, said the report, adding the truck driver was detained.
Turkish officials were quoted as saying that more than two tons of illicit drugs were seized and 43 suspects were arrested in the operations at this border gate last year.
Also on Friday, Turkish gendarmery teams seized 21.2 kg of hashish and 10 kg of hashish in two operations in the south-eastern province of Bingol and the central province of Konya.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in Western Europe.
