At least 23 people have been killed and 438 injured in carnival celebrations in Panama, the authorities said.
During the four-day "Rey Momo (Momo King)" celebrations which ended on Tuesday, 23 people were killed in traffic accidents and violent incidents.
Among the 438 injured, most of them were wounded by guns, knives, glass bottles and other objects used by troublemakers, Eynar Cruz, director of the Emergencies Center of the Santo Tomas Hospital (HST), said.
Balbina Herrera, a presidential candidate from the ruling party, was also injured after a drunken man threw a beer can at him.
