Medical staff of the Koforidua Regional Hospital have been advised to reduce their over dependence on telephones and walk from ward to ward and from their desks to consulting rooms to pick folders and other health requirements for the clients of the hospital as a form of exercise.
Such movements were expected to serve as a form of exercise for the
staff who by the nature of their work could not have regular physical
exercises to help reduce stress and obesity among them.
Dr. James Appiah-Kusi, Head of the occupational health team of the hospital gave the advice during a durbar at the hospital to present the
results of a regular medical check up instituted by the management of the hospital for the staff aimed at promoting good health amongst them.
He advised them to welcome every client to the hospital and their colleagues with a smiling face not only to promote the good image of the hospital but also to avoid stress and sickness.
Dr Appiah-Kusi said the first quarter medical check up concentrated
on blood pressure and checking of body mass of the staff to find out those
who were likely to get hypertension and initiate early treatment.
He advised the staff to control their salt intake and engage in
regular exercise on holidays and when they are off duty and stop wasting
all those periods at funerals.
Dr Appiah-Kusi said the hospital was looking for sponsorship to
enable it conduct diabetic check of all the staff during the second quarter
of the year.
Dr Obeng Apori, Medical Director of the hospital, appealed to the
staff to take the check-up serious to enable management of the hospital
to support them protect their health.
He advised them not to wait for their health to deteriorate before
seeking medical treatment.
