Churches within the Ghana Baptist Convention in the Upper West Region, on Friday, began a four-day joint convention to mark this year's celebration of Easter, which commemorates the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Members from all the 26 Baptist churches within the convention are attending the event, which is under the theme, "Being Purposeful in our Lives."
Pastor Isaac Aziebanye, Chairman of the Wa Mission Field of the Baptist Churches, noted that though the Church was increasing in size, its objective of leading believers to lead Christian lives was not being achieved at an appreciable level.
He, therefore, expressed the hope that participants would return to their communities after the convention with changed lives that would be worthy of emulation by other people
Pastor Aziebanye commended the new government for its ambition to build a better Ghana, but stated that a better Ghana could only be built if the people themselves changed for the better.
Mr. Mahmud Khalid, the Upper West Regional Minister, who was the guest of honour, called on the Church to continue to partner the State in her efforts to bring about attitudinal change on the part of the citizenry.
This, he believed, would be more effective if it was imbued in children during their formative years.
He observed that indiscipline and waywardness by the youth had pervaded all corridors of national life especially in schools, on the roads, in homes and even in churches and mosques.
Religious leaders should, therefore, support the government to fight the menace within the broad frame work of building a better Ghana, he urged.
Mr. Khalid appealed to the congregation to be patient as the government settled down to implement its policies towards ensuring a better Ghana for all.
"I am of the conviction that the atoning sacrifice of Christ will not amount to naught but guide us to give out our best in our endeavour to move this nation to the next progressive height," he added.
