The Mamprusi Youth Association in the Greater Accra Region has appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to disregard calls being made by the Abudu Gate in Dagbon for Mr Stephen Nayina, Northern Regional Minster, to be dismissed from office.
This, the youth noted, was another deliberate attempt by the Abudu Gate to have another Mamprusi kicked out of office as happened to Mr Ben Bukari Salifu in 2001.
In a statement issued by the Association on Friday, it said the allegation that the Minister authorized the renovation of the Gbewa Palace was not true as explained by the Mr Alex Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the Minister.
The statement noted that the Mamprusis in the Northern Region had no interest whatsoever in the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis and therefore Abudus should not feel threatened whenever a Mamprusi was given the regional ministerial position.
The group entreated all the elites behind the Dagbon crisis to rather channel their intellectual energies into things, which were more productive and could help foster the unity of the region since it lagged behind in development.
According to the Association, Mr Nayina had had a distinguished career and an impeccable record as a public servant for over 40 years without any trace of wrongdoing and he would also not gain anything by involving himself in the Dagbon Chieftaincy crisis.
"We can attest to the fact that he is someone who possesses leadership qualities of tolerance and impartiality; he is loving and most importantly passionate about developmental issues," the statement read.
The Association again urged the government not to listen to "hollow and negative statements" from any group meant to derail the progress of the north.
The youth pledged their support to the Regional Minister in his search for a lasting solution to the numerous socio-economic problems hampering the development of the region.
