Science students have been encouraged to excel in their subject areas to enable them to gain employment in the country's oil industry, if it starts operating fully and in other science related jobs.
Dr. Kwame Ampofo, the newly appointed Managing Director (MD) of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), who made the call, said the opportunity existed for Science students to undertake courses in petrol chemicals and other related programmes to enable them to work at oil fields at Cape Three Points in the Western Region.
He was presenting Chemistry books worth GH¢10,200.00 to six Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Tema Metropolis, in Tema on Tuesday.
The beneficiary institutions were Tema SHS, Chemu SHS, Tema Manhean Secondary/Technical School, Ashaiman SHS, Our Lady of Mercy SHS and Tema Methodist Day SHS.
Dr. Ampofo said the gesture formed part of TOR's corporate social responsibility adding that the Refinery was committed to contributing to the development of education in the country.
Mrs. Aba Lokko, Public Affairs Manager of TOR, said the donation was in fulfillment of a request made by the schools to the company.
Mr. Joseph Amoah, headmaster of Tema Manhean Secondary Technical, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked TOR for the donation and promised that the books would be handled with care.
