The Management and Staff of Twifo Oil Palm Plantation (TOPP) and school children in the company's area of operations, have for the past three years planted more than 3,000 tree seedlings to protect the environment.
Mr Emmanuel Ahiable, Estate Manager of TOPP disclosed this at the launch of this year's tree planting week of the company at Twifo Ntafrewaso, on the theme: "Your Planet Needs You, Unite to Combat Climate Change."
As part of the launch, which coincided with the World Environmental Day, tree seedlings like neem, teak and militia were planted.
In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Neneyo Mate-Kole, Managing Director of the plantation, said about 800 trees would be planted by visitors, TOPP employees, contractors, the local communities and school children.
He said employees who took good care of the trees they planted last year would be awarded to motivate others to follow their good example.
Mr Mate-Kole said last year, Management of Unilever Ghana, TOPP employees and school pupils planted about 408 tree species including teak and militia.
He noted that the programme, which is part of the corporate social responsibility of TOPP, is creating environmental awareness in the communities.
Mr Foster Joseph Andoh, Twifo Heman Lower Denkyira District Chief Executive, who took part in the tree planting exercise, called on Ghanaians to view the planting of trees as their moral responsibility to promote healthy environment for all.
The event was climaxed with a quiz competition among pupils of TOPP Basic School on "how to promote healthy environment practices in Ghana".
