The Ghana Education Service (GES) has embarked on series of two-day legal sensitisation seminars for all District/Regional Education Directors and members of District Disciplinary Committees.
This is to equip District/Regional Education Directors and the Disciplinary Committees with knowledge on how to handle disciplinary procedures in the quest of the GES to clamp down on the spate of absenteeism, lateness and persistent drunkenness that is being exhibited by teachers all over the country.
A statement signed by Mr Charles Parker-Allotey, Director of Public Relations, said the basic principles of disciplinary proceedings to be discussed included composition of disciplinary committees.
Others are basic principles that must be observed in instituting and prosecuting cases before a disciplinary committee and hierarchy of authority for operating the code of conduct and imposing penalty as enshrined in the terms and conditions of service.
