Awulae Annor Adjaye III, Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Area has appealed to the youth in the area to make education a priority in order to acquire skills relevant to the country's emerging oil industry.
"Education holds the key to one's success and with a high sense of knowledge, one would attain a greater height" he said.
Awulae Adjaye III was addressing the Nzema Manle Council at Esiama in the Elembelle District of the Western Region.
He spoke about the Kwame Nkrumah Education Fund (KNET FUND) which was established about four years ago, adding the fund has not been effective due to the lack of funds.
"The KNET Fund must be restructured and recapitalized to make it possible to provide educational materials to schools and sponsor the youth especially in the Nzemaland" he noted.
Awulae Adjaye also spoke about the poor health facilities and poor conditions in the community noting that these needed to be addressed.
He said preventive and curative measures or strategies should be put in place to meet the health needs of people in the area.
"This would prevent waste of time and money that could be used for developmental projects such as the construction of roads, schools and proper drainage systems" he stressed.
The President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Awulae Attibrukusu urged parents in the area to invest in the education of their children. "Some parents spend huge sums of money on funeral clothes and other expenses which are not beneficial to themselves and their children", he said.
He urged District Assemblies to enact bye-laws that will allow all children of school going-age to be in school, adding "education is the only legacy that parents can bequeath their children".
