Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies
have been cautioned to refrain from issuing building permits to private estate developers for construction at unauthorized places.
Mr John Yaw Aidoo, National President of the Environmental Concerned Citizens Association of Ghana said this would help check degradation of the environment.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Mr Aidoo attributed the
rampant floods, poor drainage system and destruction of the eco-system to disrespect for environmental bye-laws by the citizenry.
He said environmental protection was linked to the country's development aspirations and that when the nation's natural resources were protected effectively Ghana would improve on its bio-diversity.
Mr Aidoo urged traditional rulers, religious bodies and cooperate organizations to mobilize resources to sensitize the public on the essence of tree planting to improve Ghana's environment.
