The Asamankese Circuit court on Friday remanded in prison custody, one Kofi Djan, a farmer, charged with being in possession of 200 grams of Indian hemp.
Djan who pleaded not guilty will re-appear on August 24.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, said a policeman on September 2, last year boarded a vehicle from Boadua near Akwatia to Akyem Osenase.
He said Djan also boarded the same vehicle holding a folded cement paper containing what looked like some dried leaves, which the policeman suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor said on reaching his destination, the Policeman confronted Djan to know what he was carrying.
When the luggage was searched, it was found to contain some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Djan was therefore arrested when he claimed ownership of the stuff. The leaves were later sent to the forensic laboratory in Accra for testing, which proved to be Indian hemp weighing 290 grams.
