Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has appealed to communities and families to assist deaf and dumb persons to develop their talents for the benefit of society.
Speaking through a sign language interpreter, the Chief Executive assured all physically challenged persons in the municipality of government's commitment to addressing their challenges to make them lead more meaningful lives.
Mr Asamoah was addressing members of the Dormaa branch of the Association for the Deaf who went on a float through the principal streets of Dormaa-Ahenkro to draw public attention to challenges faced by the deaf and dumb when communicating with others.
The float, under the theme: "Communication in the Deaf Society - The Way Forward," was organised and patronized by all the 31 registered members of the branch and was sponsored by the Municipal Assembly.
The members carried banners and placards some of which read: "Help us to communicate meaningfully," "We are an integral part of society," and "Do not discriminate against the physically challenged".
The Branch President, Anthony Yeboah, thanked the assembly for its continued support for the physically challenged and expressed the preparedness of the association to engage in gainful ventures for the upkeep of their families.
