A vice foreign minister of Mexico paid a visit to Syria on Sunday to enhance ties and show support to the Middle East peace process, Mexico's Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday.
Lourdes Aranda Bezaury, Mexico's vice foreign minister, was welcomed by Syria's foreign minister Walid Al-Moalem upon her arrival in Syria, the statement said.
She then had a meeting with her counterpart Fayssal Mekdad on bilateral trade and
investment, which stood at 12.5 million dollars last year.
Aranda talked about Mexico's position regarding Syria's territory, the Golan Heights, which have been occupied by Israel since 1967.
She also met with Syria's culture minister Riad Nassan Agha and discussed bilateral cooperation in culture and education.
