Delegates at a conference of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) have called on women to press for the removal of clauses that prevented them from discovering their potentials.
They said reserved positions such as treasurer and vice-chairperson in the constitution of the PSWU and other sister unions debarred them from contesting the position of General Secretary and other higher positions in the unions and that chapter should be removed.
This was stated in Accra at the Greater Accra Regional Women's Committee conference aimed at planning activities for next year.
The conference also appealed to government to review taxes downward and to extend the tax net to cover the informal sector in order to earn more
revenue.
They said there was the need Internal Revenue Service to increase the number of its employees to cover large areas for the collection of VAT.
Mr Richard Nii-Aryertey, the Greater Acrra Regional Industrial Relations Officer of PSWU, called on women to improve upon their educational standards
and be involved in all union activities so as to be abreast with principles of trade unionism.
A highlight of the conference was election to three positions. Madam Laura Hatchison of the National Vocational Training Institute as Chairperson
with Miss Cecilia Clottey as vice chairperson and Mis Vivian Ansong, Secretary.
