Around 40 families of a forested tribal village in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh fled home Sunday after wild elephants went on rampage bringing down several mud-built houses in their village, reported the Indo-Asian News Service.
A group of wild tuskers have since Friday night sneaked into Bakalo village in Surguja district, 420 km from the state capital Raipur, and demolished three houses, said the report quoting local officials.
The animals destroyed another four houses Saturday night, forcing 40 tribal families of the village to flee to safer areas until the elephants
retreat to a nearby forested belt, said the report.
Chhattisgarh's vast northern region has recorded a rise in man- elephant conflicts in recent months, according to the report.
