A 37-year old farmer from Bisease Kumase, John Kofi, was last Friday put in prison custody in connection with the death of one Kwasi Nyamekye, his fellow native, by an Ajumako District Magistrate's Court.
The plea of Kofi was not taken and the court, presided over by Mr Kwasi Boakye Enimil, ordered him to re-appear on December 10, 2009.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Maxwell Akorli told the court that on Oct. 31 this year, the accused went to the drinking bar of Mr
Nyamekye to buy some drinks and cooked meat but his wife told Kofi that they had closed for the day.
He said the accused, however, forcibly opened the door and entered the bar to confront the couple. This led to a brutal fight between the men for over 30 minutes.
Residents around, however, separated them and Nyamekye that night slept in a family house in nearby Nyatsiase-Bisease, he said.
The prosecution said the following day, some family members found Nyamekye unconscious and rushed him to the Central Regional Hospital at Cape Coast but he was referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. He died on the journey.
Following a report by his family to the Police, Kofi was arrested.
