Mr. Stephen Amoo, a retired district fire officer, has advised landlords, transport owners and traders to procure fire extinguishers to protect their property against fire disasters.
Mr. Amoo gave the advice when he inspected houses, stores and vehicles at Nkoranza to ascertain whether the owners had extinguishers or not.
"It is rather unfortunate that people spend huge sums of money to construct magnificent buildings, big stores and fleet of vehicles but feel reluctant to obtain fire extinguishers to protect their property, he stated.
Mr. Amoo stressed the need for Ghanaians to insure their property and take other precautionary measures by protecting them against disasters.
He reminded the public about the impending dry season and called on all and sundry to be wary of how they handled naked fires to prevent the
outbreak of bushfires.
The retired fire officer advised assembly members, unit committees and traditional authorities to encourage and support local fire volunteers in combating bushfires.
Mr. Amoo urged farmers to prepare fire belts around their farms and pay regular visits to check miscreants who might set fires in the farms.
He said the ban on group hunting during the dry season was still in force and cautioned the public, especially the youth, who engage in hunting
expeditions to refrain from the practice or be prepared to face the full rigours of the law.
