Participants at the end of a two-day capacity-building workshop on climate change and food security in Tamale, have appealed to government to take adequate measures to tackle environmental problems to ensure food security.
They have also called on government to provide funds for the planting of economic trees along river basins and flood prone areas to control the perennial flooding in the country.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the workshop on environment, organized by Action Aid Ghana, a non-governmental
organisation.
Participants were educated on topics including "climate change", "the role and experience of the Environmental Protection Agency in climate change issues" and "climate change and the right to food."
They called on government to assist the people to construct water harvesting facilities.
The participants asked the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to promote agro-ecological practices to sustain indigenous way of food production.
They said the gravity of climate change should engender Parliament to enact a law to empower District Assemblies to use part of its Assembly Common Fund to support climate change programmes.
