The Myanmar authorities exposed 188 drug-related cases, punishing 296 people including 51 women, in November this year, according to a report of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control on Wednesday.
During the month, the authorities seized 24 kilograms (kg) opium, 3 kg of heroine and 38.6 kg of marijuana as well as 193,000 stimulant tablets and over 7 million Pseudo ephedrine tablets, the report said.
Meanwhile, during this year's poppy cultivation season, a total of 4,138 hectares of poppy plantations in the country have so far been
destroyed.
These poppy plantations were wiped out in a number of areas in Shan state such as Lashio, Hsenwi, Mongyan, Namtu, Mongton, Namhkam, Kutkai,
Phekhon, Loilem and Pinlaung and Pekhon.
In October and December, Myanmar put a total of over 113 million U.S. dollars worth of seized drugs on fire, of which 20 million dollars' in
Kokang, Shan State (North) Special Region-1, and 93 million dollars' in Kengtung, eastern Shan state.
The October drug destruction in Laukkai included 11.9 million ATS tablets, 7.96 million ephedrine tablets, 0.13 kg heroin, nearly 1 kg opium, 0.44 kg ICE, 246 kg ephedrine, 45 kg caffeine and other precursor chemicals, while the December burning of drugs comprised of 6.99 million tablets of stimulants, 819 kg heroin, 156 kg opium and 10 kg Ice.
Myanmar has torched drugs for 20 times in Yangon ever since and 47 times in state and division level.
Myanmar has been implementing a 15-year plan (1999-2014) to totally eradicate poppy in three phases, each running for five years, and it has now entered into the final five-year phase of the plan (2009-2014).
