A Circuit Court at Fiapre near Sunyani, has remanded a businessman into prison custody for allegedly defrauding a trader of GH¢7,000.00 with the intention of supplying her with 140 bags of cement.
Fred Amaniampong pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretence and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on October 18, this year.
Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr. Benjamin Yaw Osei on Wednesday that the accused lives at Agona-Nkwanta in the Central Region while complainant is a trader in Sunyani.
He said complainant met accused through a friend in Kumasi, who introduced him as cement dealer in early 2008, saying that accused agreed to supply 140 bags of cement to complainant at GH¢7,000.00.
The prosecution said the money was transferred into the account of the accused at the Barclays Bank in Agona-Nkwanta where he (accused) confirmed receipt of it to complainant via phone and promised to deliver the cement within a month.
Chief Inspector Baafi said complainant never heard from accused again until September 6, 2008 when she had information that accused had been arrested on similar case at Agona-Nkwanta.
Prosecutor said complainant reported the matter to the Sunyani Police and accused was brought to Sunyani where he was charged with the offence after admitting it upon interrogation.
He said Amaniampong was arraigned before the court but jumped bail until October 5th this year when the Police had a tip off and went to re-arrest him at his hide-out at Agona-Nkwanta.
