The people of Sissala/Dagaaba in the Fielmon and Buwa traditional areas of the Upper West Region, have been asked to unite and work towards progress.
Mr. Cezar Kale, the Deputy Regional Minister, who made the call, challenged people of the two communities to use the celebration of the "Kukur Bagr" festival to settle the recent impasse that broke between them.
He was speaking at this year's celebration of the "Kukur Bagr" festival of the chiefs and people of the Fielmon Traditional Area in the Sissala West District.
The festival, which is observed annually to end a successful farming season, was under the theme: "Promoting Peace through Public Education and Culture".
Mr Kale said the Regional Security Committee had requested the Regional House of Chiefs to intervene in the impasse.
He called on the people to cooperate with the Regional House of Chiefs to resolve the issue to bring peace to the area.
Mr. Kale lamented over recent armed robbery attacks in the area, and appealed to the people to volunteer information to security agencies to enable them flush out criminals.
The Deputy Regional Minister, who donated GH¢1,000.00 in support of the celebration of the festival, said government would continue to work hard to improve healthcare, water supply, roads and agricultural in the region.
Naa Francis Mwin-Irme Dangnikuu Uoremwine II, chief of Fielmon, called for a settlement of the dispute, so that the people could freely go about their economic activities.
He asked political parties and people who nurture ethnic sentiments to stop the practice to move the nation forward.
Naa Uoremwine thanked the government for giving the area its fair share of the national cake.
Mr. Cosmas Yelduor, National Chairman of the Fielmon Area Development Association appealed to the government to upgrade the Fielmon Health Center into a hospital, extend electricity to all communities, establish West African Examinations Council Center at Fielmon and establish a Senior High Technical School in the area.
Mr. Moses Dramani Luri, Sissala West District Chief Executive said government had executed 121 projects in the district.
He asked the authorities to use the festival to promote dialogue between the two factions towards the settlement of the dispute.
