Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Edward Kwaku Ashon, Eastern Regional Commander of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has observed that mentally deranged persons have been identified to be silent agents of bush fires in the area.
"If urgent actions are not taken, bush burning would continue to be blamed on farmers…, hunters and palm wine tappers alone," he said.
ACFO Ashon, made the observation in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Koforidua.
He said routine inspections at forest areas in the Region by GNFS revealed that some lunatics are behind the setting of some bushfires.
ACFO Ashon called on organisations responsible for the care of lunatics to round them up to help reverse the situation.
He urged farmers and stakeholders to be very circumspect in setting fires during the harmattan season.
ACFO Ashon asked community fire volunteers to be their guard to track down bush fires.
