A 23-year old scrap dealer arrested by the police for alleged robbery has been remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice William Boampong.
Shamuna Bawa is reported to have robbed a second hand footwear dealer of GH¢1,107.00 and a cell phone at gun point at Yennyawoso in Kumasi.
He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Wednesday, January 16.
Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Oduro-Boateng told the court that the victim, Beatrice Amoah, trades in second hand footwear at the Kumasi Central Market and lives at Yennyawoso.
As had been her routine, she had gone to the Assemblies of God Church’ s junction at about 0430 hours on January 8, to catch a vehicle to the market, when Bawa emerged, pulled a gun and ordered her to surrender all the money on her and other valuables.
He gagged and dragged her to a dark corner where he forcefully removed her cash and Samsung cell phone.
The accused then asked her to lie prostrate as he escaped with the stolen money and phone.
The prosecution said Beatrice rushed to make a report to the police at Suame and they responded swiftly.
Bawa was spotted at the Phase One Hotel, not far from the crime scene and he was arrested.
He confessed to the crime in his caution statement.
